Inser external drwaing with INSERT or XREF command (see at point B)A) make viewportViewport in a layout is a view on model. In layout you can have many views and make it with MVIEW commands, specify rectangular shape, Autocad adapt entire model to this new viewport (same as zoom extens command) then:1) double click at the center of viewport >>> you enter in model spaces inner viewport2) use zoom command for particular area to show in a viewport >>> this is adapt scale3) digit pspace to return to layout4) click on border of viewport, open property panel and set standard or custom scaleB) Difference from use BLOCK and XREFThis means that you inser your external drwaing in the model with XREF command (if you don't want modify drwaing) or INSERT command and EXPLODE if you want modify drwaingThen go to layout and follow 1-4) points for zoom this drwaingAny drwaing in your folder can insert in Autocad as block with INSERT command (or drag'n drop from explorer to your current drwaing). Block is add to your drwaing in the table blocks and increase size KB of current drwaingIf you explode this drwaing you obtain original objects (line, circle etc..) then use PURGE command for remove all unused blocksWith XREF you save memory, you see external drwaing in your drwaing and save KB of your drwaing because it is loaded from other dwg.
